That's an easy one: a paucity of new experimental results that challenge the status quo. Some time ago, I read Lee Smolin's The Trouble With Physics. Ya got trouble, my friend, right here, I say, trouble right here in River City.[1]. (New York: Houghton, 2006) The trouble, as Smolin sees it, is that physics has become too fixated on string theory. The bars are an indication of how strong the Wi-Fi signal is, but they don't tell you anything about interference or other radio problems that can corrupt a strong signal. Anyway, this post is devoted to Lee Smolin's 2006 book, The Trouble with Physics, which I recently read, and which I highly recommend. Over the Christmas break I read “The trouble with physics” by Lee Smolin. The Trouble With Physics: The Rise of String Theory, The Fall of a Science, and What Comes Next Overview.
